Päivi Siivonen is a Professor of Educational Sciences at the University of Turku's Department of Education, leading the Centre for Research on Lifelong Learning and Education (CELE) and serving as Deputy Head for Research. She holds a docent title in Adult Education from the University of Helsinki (2016) and has held academic roles at multiple institutions, including the University of Eastern Finland and previous positions at the University of Turku. Her research focuses on adult and higher education, employability, academic entrepreneurship, and narrative research, with a particular interest in gender studies and lean thinking in knowledge work. She leads the ‘Lean thinking in knowledge work’ project (2023–2025), funded by the Finnish Work Environment Fund.
Education: PhD in Adult Education (2010, University of Helsinki), post-doctoral research (2012–2013), and senior researcher roles (2014–2022). Teaching interests include adult education, narrative methods, and discourse analysis. She chairs the Finnish Society for Research on Adult Education and participates in the ESREA presidium.
Research projects include leadership roles in the Academy of Finland-funded ‘HighEmploy’ (2018–2022) and ‘ACE’ (2016–2020). Key publications include Rethinking graduate employability in context (2023), New movements in academic entrepreneurship (2021), and Moral order of top-performativity (2019). Current work emphasizes societal impacts of employability pressures and gendered labor market dynamics.
Her articles critically analyze policy discourses, gender equality frameworks, and narrative methodologies. Notable collaborations include studies on academic capitalism and identity construction among university students. She actively contributes to both academic and public discourse on educational policies and labor market trends.
