Pun To Yung is an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program at Syracuse University. His research focuses on microbial interactions with engineering tools at micro- and nano-scales, including methods to assess superbug viability and energy extraction from extremophiles using electrochemical, optical, and MEMS-based techniques.
Dr. Yung holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (Biomedical concentration) and Mathematics/Applied Science from UCLA (2003), and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the California Institute of Technology (2008). He advocates for project-based, hands-on teaching methodologies, diverging from traditional pedagogies. His awards include the NASA Postdoctoral Fellowship (2008) and multiple teaching accolades from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Recent publications highlight innovations in microbial germination monitoring via digital microfluidics and biosensor development for protein detection. His work bridges engineering principles with microbiological systems, emphasizing practical applications in biomedical diagnostics and energy systems.
