Preston S. Wilson

Dr. Preston S. Wilson is the Paul D. and Betty Robertson Meek Centennial Professor in Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, holding appointments as Professor in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering (Cockrell School of Engineering), Research Professor at Applied Research Laboratories, and Faculty Affiliate at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences.

His educational background includes a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University (2001) and BS/MS degrees from UT Austin (1990/1994). Professional experience spans postdoctoral research at BU (2001-2003), research engineering at ARL (1994-1997), and faculty service since 2003.

Research focuses on Acoustics (Ocean/Physical/Engineering) and Vibration Control, with cutting-edge work in sound propagation through complex media, bioacoustics, acoustic metamaterials, and underwater noise abatement using encapsulated bubbles. His vibration research explores nonlinear systems like buckled beams for advanced damping solutions.

With over 100 peer-reviewed publications featured in Scientific American and National Geographic, his work demonstrates strong translational impact through six US patents and co-founding AdBm Technologies.
