Premashis Manna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Ohio State University (OSU), leading the Manna Laboratory. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira (Calcutta University) and Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, followed by a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder. His postdoctoral research included studies at MIT and the Weizmann Institute of Science.
His research focuses on dynamics-guided directed evolution of protein function, developing biosensors for single-molecule and super-resolution microscopy, optimizing far-red light-harvesting complexes, and engineering enzymes for plastic degradation. Key techniques include microfluidic-based selections and single-molecule spectroscopy.
Cited works include breakthroughs in LHCII clustering mechanisms (Science Advances, 2023) and fluorescent protein optimization (Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2022). The lab integrates biochemistry, biophysics, and machine learning to advance protein engineering and biocatalysis.
