Preeti John is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Medical Center and practices as a surgeon at the VA Maryland Healthcare System in Baltimore. She serves as an intensivist in the VHA’s Tele-Critical Care program and is triple board certified in General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. John holds an MD and Master of Bioethics (MBE) from Johns Hopkins University.
Her professional roles include chairing the ethics consultation service at the VA Maryland Healthcare System and serving as vice-chair of the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s Ethics Committee. She is certified as a healthcare ethics consultant by the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities.
Dr. John’s research and advocacy focus on surgical ethics, palliative care integration, and gender issues in surgery. She authored the book *‘Being a Woman Surgeon – 60 Women Share Their Stories’* and contributes to the editorial board of the American Medical Women’s Association’s *Literary AMWA* journal.
