Preeti Chopra is a Professor of Visual Studies, South Asian Art and Architecture at the University of Wisconsin –Madison, and serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies. She specializes in modern architectural history, colonial spatial landscapes, and postcolonial theory with a focus on South Asia. Her research examines the intersections of empire, material culture, and urban development in colonial contexts.

Chopra’s work bridges art history, urban studies, and postcolonial theory to critique Eurocentric narratives in architectural historiography.
Her publications span from monographs like A Joint Enterprise: Indian Elites and the Making of British Bombay (2011) to articles on colonial urbanism, memory studies, and global architectural histories. Recent work critiques imperial knowledge systems through analyses of world architectural narratives.
