Praveen Kumar is the Cullen Distinguished Professor of Finance, Chairperson of the Department of Finance, and Faculty Director of the Gutierrez Energy Management Institute (GEMI) at the C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University and earned an A.B. and M.P.A. from Princeton University.

His recent publications appear in top journals such as the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, and Management Science, reflecting a strong focus on corporate finance, asset pricing, and energy finance. Trends in his work include the valuation of real options in energy projects, risk management in unconventional oil and gas, and the strategic use of disclosure and stock repurchases.
