Praveen K. Saxena is a Professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph, where he serves as Director of the Gosling Research Institute for Plant Preservation (GRIPP). His work integrates plant science with conservation and biotechnology.
- B.Sc., Meerut University
- M.Sc., Lucknow University
- M.Phil., Delhi University
- Ph.D., Delhi University
His research focuses on novel plant growth regulators like melatonin and serotonin, exploring their roles in stress mitigation and developmental regulation across diverse plant species. His team pioneered Quantum Dot nanoparticle tracking to understand antioxidant mechanisms in stress responses. GRIPP's work includes in vitro conservation and cryopreservation of endangered species such as Hill’s Thistle and golden paintbrush, employing the CPR model (Conservation, Propagation, Restoration) in collaboration with Parks Canada.
Recent publications highlight advancements in plant signaling networks, 3D-printed tissue culture systems, and iron-enhanced propagation protocols. His Integrated Plant Production Systems (IPPS) optimize commercial cultivation of medicinal, ornamental, and food crops including ginseng, hops, and hazelnut.
The lab also explores phytoneurochemistry and the evolutionary role of indoleamines, linking plant biology to human-environment interactions through the online Spiritual Botany magazine.
