Prateek Shekhar

Dr. Prateek Shekhar is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Education and interim coordinator of the Engineering Education division at NJIT's School of Applied Engineering and Technology. Previously, he held postdoctoral and research roles at the University of Michigan. His work focuses on equity in STEM education, particularly entrepreneurship education for underrepresented groups, and evidence-based instructional practices. He has been recognized with awards including the 2023 Saul K Fenster Innovation Award and the 2018 Outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher Award.

Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (UT Austin, 2016), M.S. in Electrical Engineering (USC, 2010), B.S. in Electronics and Communication Engineering (UP Technical University, 2009).

Research interests include: Women STEM faculty engagement in entrepreneurship programs, active learning strategies, and curricular innovations. He has published extensively on topics like student motivation, program participation barriers, and pedagogical frameworks. Current projects explore the intersection of equity, technology integration, and faculty adoption of EBIPs.

Awards highlight his contributions to advancing engineering education equity and innovation. His editorial roles with journals like Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering reflect his commitment to scholarly dissemination of inclusive practices.

Grants and collaborations include NSF-funded projects on instructor strategies and student resistance to active learning. His work bridges theory and practice through community-led frameworks and data-driven methodologies.
