Prasanta K. Subudhi is a Professor in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences at Louisiana State University (LSU). He holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (1992) and has over two decades of academic experience, including roles as Assistant and Associate Professor at LSU Agricultural Center.
His research focuses on crop improvement through classical and molecular breeding, with emphasis on abiotic stress tolerance in rice, aflatoxin resistance in corn, and genetic studies of weedy rice. Key projects include developing salt-tolerant rice varieties via introgression of genes from exotic donors and elucidating genetic mechanisms underlying plant stress responses.
Subudhi’s work spans genomics, epigenetics, and marker-assisted breeding. He leads the Crop Plants Genetics Laboratory (http://www.cpgl.lsu.edu), where he investigates traits like seed dormancy, photoperiod response, and root architecture. His lab also explores soybean salt tolerance and corn resistance to aflatoxin contamination.
Teaching: He instructs AGRO 7080 (Applied Plant Genomics), a graduate course focusing on modern genomic tools in plant breeding.
