Prasanna Karunanayaka is an Associate Professor at Penn State University with dual appointments in the Department of Radiology and Department of Public Health Sciences. He contributes to the Penn State Neuroscience Institute with a focus on functional MRI and neurodegenerative diseases.

His research spans Alzheimer's disease, olfactory processing, and neural correlates of consumer behavior. Recent work explores hormonal influences on olfaction and sleep, and the integration of sensory systems in the brain. He received the Junior Faculty Research Scholar Award in 2017 and leads a National Institute on Aging-funded project (2021–2026) linking olfactory deficits to Alzheimer's neurodegeneration.
