Pranav Patil is a Researcher and PhD candidate at the Chair of Bioeconomy within the Institute of Economics at the University of Hohenheim. His research focuses on the intersection of energy, environment, development, public finance, and political economy, particularly in the context of agricultural policies and land-labor dynamics in Sub-Saharan Africa.

His work explores causal impacts of energy policies on agricultural productivity and groundwater extraction in India, utilizing large-scale village-level panel data. Current research under the DFG-funded LANDYN project investigates structural change and economic transformation scenarios in Sub-Saharan Africa, conducted in collaboration with IFPRI, Washington DC.
Pranav holds a background in Natural Science (Math and Physics) from the University of Pune, India, and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Mannheim. He has professional experience in health, education, and gender research projects in India, along with internships at UFZ (Environmental Research) in Leipzig and ZEW (Economic Policy) in Mannheim.
He is supervised by Prof. Franziska Schünemann and contributes to the University of Hohenheim’s research priorities in bioeconomy and sustainable development.
