Dr. Pragya Ghimire is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health and Human Performance, Kean University, located within the College of Health Professions and Human Services. Her office is in D 211 and she can be reached at pghimire@kean.edu. She holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Oklahoma, along with dual Master’s degrees in Exercise Physiology and Microbiology (Distinction) from the University of Oklahoma and Tribhuvan University, respectively. She also earned a B.S. in Microbiology from Tribhuvan University.
Dr. Ghimire’s research focuses on the molecular impact of exercise and nutrition on bone metabolism, including bone turnover and formation. She examines novel biomarkers such as sclerostin, DKK-1, RANKL, and Irisin, exploring their roles in osteoporosis/sarcopenia prevention and exercise performance. Her work emphasizes disease prevention and has resulted in peer-reviewed publications and collaborations with international researchers. She has also served as a reviewer for over 10+ journals.
Her recent articles analyze topics like dietary patterns and diabetes prediction using machine learning, calcium intake effects on athletic performance, and bone turnover markers in musculoskeletal injury risk assessment. These studies highlight her interdisciplinary approach, bridging exercise physiology, nutrition science, and biomedical research.
While no specific scientific awards are listed, her active research portfolio demonstrates significant contributions to bone health and exercise science. Dr. Ghimire teaches advanced courses such as Statistics, Research Design in Exercise, and Electrocardiography. She actively engages in scholarly activities, including presentations and program development for health initiatives like college-based safe ride programs in rural settings.
