Dr. Pontian Okoli is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Stirling and currently serves as Director of Learning and Teaching (Law and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts and Humanities). Previously, he held roles including Director of BA Law Programmes (2021–2024) and Adviser of Studies. He earned his PhD in 2018 from the University of Dundee as a Scrymgeour Scholar, with earlier degrees including an LLM (International Commercial Law, 2011) and LLB (2006) from the University of Nigeria.
His research focuses on Private International Law, Comparative Law, and intersections between international business transactions and access to justice. Notable contributions include work on foreign judgments, regional integration, and climate change regimes. He co-founded the Dundee Africa Research Network and chairs the Indonesia International Arbitration Center's Academy and Mentorship Committee (2021–2024).
Selected articles highlight themes such as treaty compliance, arbitration ethics, climate policy comparisons, and internet torts. His 2023 article on internet torts and 2025 work on Singapore Convention mediation were top-downloaded in their journals. Awards include Fellowships from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Higher Education Academy.
Teaching and mentorship roles include Course Leadership and Module Organisation at the University of Dundee. His legal practice (2007–2018) involved international commercial law in Nigerian firms and a financial institution, representing clients in Europe and the US.
Key contributions extend to editorial roles (e.g., Commonwealth Law Bulletin) and industry guides like the International Comparative Legal Guides. His 2019 book, *Promoting Foreign Judgments: Lessons in Legal Convergence from South Africa and Nigeria*, explores legal harmonization strategies.
