Poland Lai is an Associate Professor at the School of Administrative Studies, part of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University. Her academic work bridges law, policy, and governance, with a focus on regulatory frameworks in public administration.

Dr. Lai’s research explores the rise of the regulatory state, compliance mechanisms, and internal government regulation. Her doctoral dissertation on Ontario long-term care home governance has been shared at legal and non-legal conferences, with part of her work published in The Aging-Disability Nexus (UBC Press, 2020). She has also contributed to journals such as the Canadian Journal of Law & Society and Disability & Society.
Dr. Lai has received the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and brings extensive policy experience from her role as a senior advisor with the Ontario Ministry of Finance. She currently teaches at York University and is accepting new graduate students.
