Professor Ioannis Platis is a faculty member at the Department of Mathematics, University of Patras, specializing in Pure Mathematics. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Crete (1999), following B.Sc. (1988) and M.Sc. (1994) degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Crete, respectively. His academic career includes roles at the University of Cyprus, University of Crete (from 2008 as Assistant, then Associate, and later full Professor until 2024), and his current position at the University of Patras since 2024.
Research Interests: Geometric Analysis, Hyperbolic Geometry, Sub-Riemannian Geometry, Möbius Geometry, Quasiconformal Mappings in the Heisenberg Group, and Complex Hyperbolic Geometry. His work explores structures like the affine-additive group, Heisenberg geometry, and configuration spaces, with applications in geometric topology and analysis.
Teaching: Currently teaches Complex Analysis, Geometry, and History of Mathematics. Past roles include courses at undergraduate and graduate levels across multiple institutions.
Grants & Collaborations: Collaborations with researchers like Zoltan Balogh, Elisha Falbel, and John R. Parker. His research has been supported by Marie Curie Fellowships in the UK and Greece.
Publications: Over 30 peer-reviewed articles, including works on geodesics in Kaehler cones, hyperbolicity in affine-additive groups, and quasiconformal mappings. Recent focus areas include modulus calculations, configuration spaces, and geometric deformations.
Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary research groups focusing on geometric analysis and complex hyperbolic structures. His work is disseminated through platforms like the Handbook of Teichmüller Theory and conferences in geometry and topology.
