Professor Pittock Murray is a distinguished academic and administrator at the University of Glasgow, currently serving as the Bradley Professor of Literature and Pro Vice-Principal (Special Projects). He has held senior roles including Vice-Principal of the College of Arts and Dean of Research at Glasgow, as well as professorships at the University of Manchester and University of Strathclyde. His academic journey includes a D.Phil. from Balliol College, Oxford, and early roles as a lecturer and reader at the University of Edinburgh.
His research focuses on Scottish and Irish studies, comparative nationalisms, poetry and politics, and material heritage. He has authored over 30 influential monographs and edited collections, including works on Robert Burns, the Jacobite era, and Romanticism. His leadership in the Centre for Robert Burns Studies earned the Queen’s Anniversary Prize (2023).
