Piotr Garbacz

Piotr Garbacz is an Associate Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Nordic Studies (ILN), University of Oslo, since 2017. He previously served as Head of Department at ILN (2017-2020) and at the Department of Linguistics, University of Southeast Norway (2014-2016). His academic career includes postdoctoral and associate professor roles at UiO (2010-2014).

Research Interests: Garbacz specializes in syntax and morphology of Nordic languages, focusing on the interplay between these areas within generative grammar. He investigates dialectology (particularly Elvdalian and Ovansiljan dialects), language history (Swedish, Germanic, and Indo-European), and etymology. His work also extends to heritage language maintenance, as seen in the NorPol project (2020-2024) funded by the Norwegian Research Council.
