Piotr Chomczyński

Dr. Piotr Chomczyński is an Associate Professor at the University of Lodz's Department of Sociology of Art, Faculty of Economics and Sociology. He leads the Centre for Data Analysis, Modelling and Computational Sciences (CAMiNO) and holds a scholarship from the European Eurica program at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. His research focuses on qualitative methodologies in criminology, organized crime, and deviance, particularly in Mexico and Latin America. He has conducted fieldwork on Mexican drug trafficking organizations and prison systems, and his work bridges theoretical frameworks like 'Collective Trajectory' with empirical research.

Education includes courses at Stanford University and postgraduate studies in Knowledge Commercialization (PRINCE 2 certification). He has authored numerous publications for international publishers like Oxford University and Sage, and his grants include a Norwegian Research Council-funded project on crime in Latin America. Awards include the Polish Academy of Sciences' scientific award and a Ministerial Scholarship for Young Eminent Scientists.

Research interests span ethnography of drug cartels, juvenile crime, and public policy. He has taught at Penn State University and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and his work addresses issues like police violence, drug market dynamics, and reintegration of ex-prisoners.
