Pinyan Zhu is Assistant Professor of Art History at Emory University, specializing in Chinese Buddhist visual culture from the 7th-8th centuries. Her interdisciplinary research examines intersections of art, religion, landscape, and gender through ecocritical frameworks.
Research explores the Longmen Grottoes as sites of spiritual practice, political expression, and environmental transformation, with particular focus on imperial patronage under Wu Zhao. Additional interests include material culture studies and contemporary Buddhist artistic revivalism.
