Ping Qin is a Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology and Suicidology at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NSSF). He holds a PhD from Aarhus University and an M.D. from Tongji Medical University. His academic roles include leading register-based research on suicide and self-harm, previously serving as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at Aarhus University.
Research Interests: Dr. Qin focuses on epidemiology, register-based studies, psychiatric illnesses, and suicide prevention strategies. His work emphasizes understanding the health effects of early life adversities and developing evidence-based interventions to reduce suicidal behavior.
Recent Work: His publications address suicide trends during the pandemic, risk factors following self-harm, and clinical decision support systems using machine learning. He co-chaired the 2023 and 2021 International Summits on Suicide Research and served as Acting Director of NSSF.
Awards/Leadership: Former Vice President of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (2017–2020), highlighting his global influence in suicide research and policy.
