Pietro Lenarda is an Assistant Professor at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, specializing in computational mechanics within the Multiscale Analysis of Material (MUSAM) research unit. He holds a PhD in Computational Mechanics and a Master’s in Mathematics from the University of Florence. His research focuses on computational methods for nonlinear coupled phenomena in continuum mechanics, with applications in biomechanics, photovoltaic materials, and fluid-structure interaction. He has been a visiting fellow at the University of Oxford, University of Seville, and Campus Bio-Medico of Rome.
Dr. Lenarda teaches courses in computational mechanics for the School’s Systems Science and Management of Digital Transformation PhD program. He has supervised four PhD students and contributed to evaluation committees for visiting professors and post-docs. His scientific achievements include the 2018 best PhD thesis award from the Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
His research spans phase field models for fracture mechanics, hyperelastic models for human organs, fractional calculus for viscoelastic materials, and lattice-Boltzmann methods for tumor cell transport. He collaborates on projects involving bioprinting in gastrointestinal systems and photovoltaic durability modeling funded by the Italian National Recovery Plan. His work combines advanced numerical techniques with experimental validation to address challenges in biomedical engineering, energy materials, and structural mechanics.
