Pieter Emmer

Pieter C. Emmer is a Professor in the History of the Expansion of Europe and related migration movements at the History Department of the University of Leiden. He has held visiting fellowships at Churchill College (Cambridge), Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin, and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study, and served as a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Hamburg.

His research focuses on migration history and the history of European expansion, with significant publications on the Dutch role in the Atlantic economy and slave trade. His work bridges economic history, colonial studies, and maritime history.
