Pieter C. Emmer is Professor in the History of the Expansion of Europe and the related migration movements at the History Department of the University of Leiden, a position he has held continuously since 1974. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Amsterdam in 1974 after studying History and Economics at the University of Leiden.
His research focuses on:

Professor Emmer's scholarly work bridges economic history with migration studies, examining the complex interconnections between European colonial powers, economic systems, and population movements across the Atlantic world.
