معرفی
Pierre-Marie David is an Associate Professor at the School of Pharmacy, University of Montreal. His research critically examines pharmaceutical policies and global health dynamics, focusing on equity, power relations, and the societal impacts of medical interventions. He has worked with organizations like the French Red Cross in Central Africa and the WHO in Southeast Asia, addressing challenges in healthcare access and resilience. David holds a PharmD and interdisciplinary training in sociology of health, including a PhD from Université Lyon 1 and Université de Montréal, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Université Paris Diderot under Guillaume Lachenal. He teaches public health, sociology of health, and pharmaceutical policy evaluation in the PharmD program. Current research projects include studying drug exceptional access programs (DEAPs) equity in Canada, sociological implications of AI diagnostics in global health, and rethinking 'preparedness' paradigms in epidemic responses.

- PhD in Sociology of Health (Université Lyon 1 & Université de Montréal, 2008–2013)
- Postdoctoral Research (2015–2017, Université Paris Diderot)
Research Expertise:
David’s work bridges sociology, anthropology, and public health, analyzing pharmaceutical practices in contexts of global inequity. Key themes include:
- Pharmaceutical exceptional access programs (DEAPs) and their equity implications
- AI-based diagnostics in global health (e.g., tuberculosis detection)
- Critical evaluation of 'resilience' paradigms in pandemic responses
- Healthcare access for marginalized groups (asylum seekers, vulnerable populations)
- Historical and political dimensions of health systems in Africa
Teaching & Supervision:
He coordinates the interdisciplinary MÉOS research group and teaches PHA-6225 (Research Methodology in Pharmacy). Recent student supervisions include studies on palliative care at home, vaccine prioritization in Quebec pharmacies, and pharmaceutical sovereignty in Colombia. He emphasizes applied, community-oriented pedagogy to foster teamwork and ethical professionalism.
Grants & Collaborations:
- Lead researcher: Ethique et politique de l'«exception pharmaceutique» (2021–2025, SSHRC)
- Co-researcher: Réseau québécois de recherche sur les médicaments (2024–2029, FRQS)
- International collaborations include studies on pandemic response resilience in Brazil, China, Japan, France, and Mali (IRSC-funded)
Labs & Teams:
Affiliated with the CISSS de Laval’s clinical practice transformation research unit and the Université de Montréal’s interdisciplinary Groupe de recherche MÉOS (focusing on medicine as a social object). His work intersects with global health networks like OBVIA and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
