Pierre Legagneux serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology within Laval University's Faculty of Science, holding the Sentinelle Nord Research Chair on animal migration impacts on northern ecosystems. His research spans Arctic ecology, animal physiology, and climate change effects on migratory species.
- PhD in Ecology, Energetics and Behavior (2007) from Université Louis Pasteur, France
- Postdoctoral research at Université Laval (2009-2012), Université du Québec à Rimouski (2012-2017), and Office National de la Chasse et de la Faune Sauvage (2007-2008)
- Habilitation à diriger des recherches (2018) from Université de La Rochelle
His research focuses on terrestrial ecology and animal physiology in Arctic systems, particularly examining how environmental stressors affect migratory bird behavior, energy allocation, and ecosystem function. Current work integrates climate change impacts with community ecology through long-term monitoring at Bylot Island. His team employs biotelemetry, physiological markers, and food web modeling to study trophic mismatches, contaminant transport, and population dynamics in migratory species.
Recent publications reveal critical insights into Arctic ecosystem responses to warming, including non-linear temperature effects on arthropod availability, energy expenditure patterns in migratory seabirds, and anthropogenic disturbance impacts on snow goose behavior. His work demonstrates how individual physiology mediates population-level responses to environmental change across migratory networks.
As scientific leader, Legagneux contributes to the Centre d'études nordiques, participates in Canadian Wildlife Service committees for snow goose management, and conducts knowledge transfer activities with Inuit communities in Nunavut. His research program integrates field ecology with physiological mechanisms to address conservation challenges in rapidly changing northern ecosystems.
