Pia R. Kamstrup

Pia R. Kamstrup is a Clinical Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen, and heads the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at Copenhagen University Hospital - Herlev and Gentofte.

Dr. Kamstrup's research focuses on genetic epidemiology, particularly genetically determined heritable hyperlipidemia and cardiovascular disease. She is renowned for her work on genetically determined high lipoprotein(a) and its associated morbidity and mortality. Her research utilizes large population studies including the Copenhagen General Population Study (N~150,000) and the Copenhagen Baby Heart Study (N~25,000), where she serves on the steering committees. Her work bridges clinical biochemistry with genetic epidemiology to understand cardiovascular risk factors at a population level.

Her recent publications demonstrate significant contributions to understanding lipoprotein(a) in cardiovascular disease, dementia risk, and cardiac biomarker diagnostics. Her research shows consistent focus on translating genetic findings into clinical applications for cardiovascular risk assessment.
