Phyllis C Zee is a Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and serves as the Director of the Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine. She holds the Benjamin and Virginia T. Boshes Professor of Neurology and is a leading expert in circadian rhythm disorders and sleep medicine.
- Education: BS in 1980 from Mills College, PhD in 1980 and MD in 1983 from Chicago Medical School
- Training: Chief Resident (1987), Fellow in Neurobiology & Physiology (1989), Fellow in Sleep Medicine (1990)
Her research explores how disruptions in sleep and circadian rhythms contribute to neurological and cardio-metabolic disorders, with a focus on aging and women's health. She specializes in clinical trials for insomnia, hypersomnia, sleep apnea, and circadian disorders, utilizing interventions like timed light, activity, and feeding schedules.
Recent publications highlight her work on narcolepsy therapies, sleep apnea diagnostics, circadian influences on metabolic health, and sleep disturbances in pregnancy and chronic conditions. Her studies often intersect sleep science with neurology, psychiatry, and public health.
