معرفی
Phillip Tretten serves as an Assistant Professor at Luleå University of Technology, Department of Social Sciences, Technology and Arts, specializing in the Humans and Technology division. His work bridges occupational science, human factors engineering, and maintenance technology with a focus on practical applications in industrial contexts.
Dr. Tretten holds a Doctor of Technology in Industrial Design (2011), Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Design (2008), Master in Psychology (2005), and BA in Psychology (1992) from Luleå University of Technology, with additional undergraduate studies at Palm Beach Atlantic University. His educational background reflects an interdisciplinary approach combining technical design with human cognitive and psychological aspects.
His research centers on maintenance risks and Human Machine Interaction (HMI), with particular emphasis on developing maintenance system guidelines that support operators and maintenance personnel in decision-making. Key research areas include tacit knowledge extraction from maintenance technicians, autonomous maintenance systems, and the integration of human intuitive cognition with intelligent systems. His work explores implicit measurement techniques for situational awareness and collaboration concepts in automated system design.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on applying AI and intelligent systems to transportation, mining, and industrial contexts, with particular emphasis on human-centered design principles. His work consistently addresses the interface between human operators and increasingly automated systems across various industrial sectors.
Dr. Tretten actively supervises doctoral students across multiple research areas including digital transformation, work environment strategies, situational awareness, and Industrial AI applications. He teaches courses in Human Factors in Maintenance, Workplace Safety, Design Science, and various degree projects at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.
His research is supported by multiple projects including Vinnova's SMART-MINE and OPTIVE initiatives, EU Horizon 2020 projects like RemaNet and NexGen SIMS, and collaborations with the Swedish Transport Administration on intelligent maintenance systems.
