Phillip Sidney Horky is a Professor in the Department of Classics and Ancient History and Associate Professor in Philosophy at Durham University. He co-directs the Durham Centre for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (DCAMP) and holds roles such as Secretary of the Classical Committee and Trustee for the Gilbert Murray Trust. His research focuses on Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy, particularly Pythagoreanism, metaphysics, and the philosophy of democracy in antiquity. He has held prestigious fellowships including the British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship (2022-23) and Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship (2016).
Education: PhD in Classics from the University of Southern California (2007).
Key Projects: Co-Investigator of the £2.5M 'Aristoteles Pezographos' project and leader of 'Project Academy' exploring the Platonic tradition. His major publications include Plato and Pythagoreanism (Oxford UP, 2013) and Cambridge Texts and Studies in Platonism book series.
Awards: British Academy Fellowship, Rockefeller Foundation Grant, and AHRC Peer Review College membership.
Outreach: Advocates for Classics education and gives talks on ancient philosophy and democracy.
