Phillip Morgan

Phillip Morgan is a full-time faculty member in the Department of History at Welch College, starting in January 2017. He succeeds John Carter, who retired after 35 years of service. In addition to his academic role, Morgan continues part-time ministry as Associate Pastor for Youth and Music at Heads Free Will Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Tennessee. His academic journey includes a B.S. in Music from Welch College (2008), an M.A. in History from Middle Tennessee State University (completed December 2016), and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Public History at MTSU.

Morgan’s research interests focus on integrating historical scholarship with Christian faith, particularly in public history, church history, and theological education for youth. He has contributed to denominational publications such as Integrity: A Journal of Christian Thought and co-authored a collection of essays on the theology of Welch professor emeritus Leroy Forlines. His archival work includes roles as Assistant Curator of the Free Will Baptist Historical Collection and Archivist for Welch College.

He actively engages in denominational leadership, serving on boards like the Tennessee Christian Education Board and organizing youth camps and national convention seminars. His professional network includes collaboration with Dr. Robert Picirilli and contributions to the Helwys Society Forum.

Morgan resides in Robertson County, Tennessee, with his wife Megan and children Isaiah and Julia.
