Phillip Joseph, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He holds affiliations with the Winchester Center for Lung Disease, Scleroderma Program, and other clinical research initiatives. Dr. Joseph completed his MD at NYU School of Medicine (2012), residency at NYU School of Medicine (2015), and fellowship at Harvard-Brigham and Women's Hospital (2019).
His research focuses on cardiopulmonary pathophysiology in chronic diseases, particularly post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC), myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), and pulmonary hypertension. He employs invasive and noninvasive cardiopulmonary exercise testing to study hemodynamic and metabolic mechanisms underlying exercise intolerance. Key areas include long COVID pathophysiology, sex differences in pulmonary vascular disease, and proteomic signatures of disease.
Dr. Joseph leads the CADENCE clinical trial evaluating sotatercept for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). He has published extensively on PASC, ME/CFS, and pulmonary hypertension, with over 25 peer-reviewed articles. His work bridges clinical care and translational research, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to complex respiratory conditions.
Board certifications include Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Internal Medicine (American Board of Internal Medicine). He actively participates in medical education and physician-scientist development programs at Yale School of Medicine.
