Dr. Phillip J. Ardoin serves as Professor of Political Science in the Department of Government and Justice Studies at Appalachian State University, where he has been a faculty member since 2003. His leadership roles include former Department Chair (2014-2022), Graduate Program Director, and AppState Council of Chairs Chair (2017-2018).

Dr. Ardoin's research centers on American Politics with specialized focus on African American republican elites, partisan influences on college student voting, and AI integration in political science education. His methodological approach combines traditional political behavior analysis with emerging technological tools to examine evolving electoral dynamics and pedagogical innovation.
As an educator, he teaches core undergraduate courses including American National Politics, Legislative Politics, and Campaigns and Elections, alongside graduate seminars in Presidential Politics and Applied Politics. His service record includes eight years as Co-Editor of PS: Political Science and Politics and leadership in the North Carolina Political Science Association.
