Phillip Burgess is an Associate Professor of Music, Dean of the Shuford School of Performing Arts, and Director of Vocal-Choral Activities at Catawba College. He holds a D.M.A. from the University of Michigan and oversees choral/vocal programs, First Year Seminar, and Honors Programs. As college organist and collaborative pianist, he leads Catawba’s choirs in national performances.

His research focuses on multicultural choral music and music education. He founded the Salisbury Ecumenical Choir and Amadeus Youth Chorus, emphasizing community engagement. His choirs have performed at ACDA and United Church of Christ conventions.
Award-winning leader, Dr. Burgess previously served as Organist/Choirmaster at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (20 years) and faculty at Pfeiffer University. He currently serves as Music Director at Ursinus United Church of Christ.
