Phillip A. Swan is a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Lawrence University's Conservatory of Music. He leads Cantala, directs LUVS (LU Vocal Spectrum), and oversees musical theatre productions. As Artistic Director of NEWVoices, he earned a 2016 Chorus America Award for community engagement programs addressing human trafficking and Alzheimer’s disease. Active nationally and internationally, he has conducted honor choirs across the U.S. and collaborated with choirs in Oman and China.

His articles explore collaborative conducting methodologies and community-driven programming. Awards highlight his contributions to Wisconsin’s choral scene (Morris D. Hayes Award) and campus mentorship (Mrs. H. K. Babcock Award).
Swan advises student a cappella groups and has secured grants supporting international collaborations and community music initiatives. He leads Lawrence’s choral program, fostering both artistic excellence and societal impact through music.
