Philippidis Aggelos

Dr. Aggelos Philippidis is a PostDoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL-FORTH), Crete, Greece. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Crete (2009), with prior degrees (MSc 2003, BSc 1996) from the same institution. His research focuses on spectroscopic methods applied to cultural heritage preservation and agro-food analysis, emphasizing Raman spectroscopy, SERS, and chemometrics. He has pioneered portable Raman systems for art analysis and developed methodologies for olive oil authenticity using optical spectroscopy.

Recent work emphasizes honey adulteration detection, microplastic contamination in marine organisms, and optimizing laser cleaning protocols for historical monuments.

Teaching: Taught courses at the University of Crete's Dept. of Materials Science & Engineering (2018-2020) and the Biomedical Engineering MSc Program (2020-2022), covering analytical chemistry and spectroscopic techniques.

Labs/Teams: Active member of IESL-FORTH's Photonics for Heritage Science and Agrofoods teams, collaborating on projects funded by national/international grants.
