Professor Philippe Moisan is affiliated with Grinnell College, where he serves in the Departments of French and Arabic and European Studies. Born in Brittany, France, his academic journey includes a D.E.U.G. in Literature and Visual Arts, a Licence in Literature from the University of Caen (Normandy), and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.

Moisan's research and teaching focus on 19th- and 20th-century French fiction, with a particular emphasis on the decline of Humanism and the emergence of Modernity. His book Les Natchez de Chateaubriand: l'utopie, l'abîme et le feu explores the crisis of Humanism in Chateaubriand's work, and he has published/presented papers on authors like Hugo, Zola, and Robbe-Grillet.
At Grinnell, he teaches courses such as Introduction to French Literature of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries (FRN 313), seminars on 19th/20th-century literature, and special topics including Urban Myths in Francophone Literature (co-taught with Susan Ireland) and Masculinity in French Literature. He has also led guided readings on existentialism, Les Misérables, and 21st-century novel trends.
