Philippe Bertus is a Professor at Le Mans University since 2007, affiliated with the MSO team within the IMMM laboratory (Institute of Molecules and Materials of Le Mans). His academic background includes a 1997 doctoral thesis at the University of Reims under P. Pale, a postdoctoral position at ENSCP Paris (1997-1998) with JP Genêt, and a CRCT-funded postdoc at Technion Israel (2004) with I. Marek.
His research focuses on group IV organometallic chemistry, particularly titanium-based systems derived from Ti(OiPr)4 and organomagnesium compounds. Key contributions include:
- Development of cyclopropylamine synthesis from nitriles/imides
- Preparation of cyclopentenylamines and cyclopentenones from dienes
- Applications in asymmetric synthesis and biologically active molecule construction
Current work expands Kulinkovich chemistry to novel reactions for pharmaceutical intermediates, leveraging titanium complexes' versatility in ring-formation methodologies. Bertus operates within IMMM's multidisciplinary framework covering Organic Synthesis, Polymers, Inorganic Materials, and Physics of Confined Systems, utilizing specialized platforms like femtosecond lasers and electron microscopy.
