Dr. Philippa Byrne is an Assistant Professor in Medieval History at Trinity College Dublin, part of the Department of History. Her research focuses on the intellectual history of the central Middle Ages, particularly the interplay between theology, law, and the concept of the Twelfth-Century Renaissance. She examines how medieval schools and universities influenced political and legal systems, with a recent emphasis on the intellectual exchanges in twelfth-century Sicily and southern Italy involving Arabic, Greek, and Latin scholars. Before joining Trinity, she held positions as a Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow.
