معرفی
Philipp W Messer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computational Biology at Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His research focuses on evolutionary biology and population genetics, particularly studying rapid adaptation in pathogens (e.g., Malaria, HIV) and insects (e.g., pesticide resistance), aiming to quantify and predict evolutionary processes.
Education:
- Ph.D., Free University of Berlin, 2008
- M.S., University of Cologne, 2005
- B.S., University of Cologne, 2001
Research Interests:
Messer’s lab investigates the genetic mechanisms of rapid adaptation, including de novo mutations, selection strength, and CRISPR gene drives. They develop computational tools like SLiM for evolutionary simulations and collaborate with experimental groups to identify molecular adaptation bases.
Academic Affiliations:
- Graduate Fields: Computational Biology, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, Genomics & Development
Teaching:
- BIOG 4990: Independent Undergraduate Research in Biology
- BIOMG 4810: Population Genetics
- BTRY 4810: Population Genetics
Scientific Awards:
- Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP) postdoctoral fellow
