Philipp Schorch is Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. His research explores museum anthropology, material culture, contemporary art, and postcolonial histories, with regional expertise in the Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. He leads an ERC Starting Grant project examining the transformation of indigenous identities from 'vanishing people' to global actors since the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Research focuses include:
- Collaborative methodologies with indigenous communities
- Transcultural collections and exhibitions
- Decolonial approaches to cultural heritage
- Global indigeneity and identity politics
He has co-edited several volumes including 'Transpacific Americas: Encounters and Engagements Between the Americas and the South Pacific' and 'Curatopia: Museums and the Future of Curatorship'.
