Philipp Sadowski

Philipp Sadowski is an Associate Professor of Economics at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD from Princeton University (2008) and an M.S. from the University of Bonn (2002). His research focuses on microeconomic theory, decision theory, and behavioral economics, particularly exploring the interplay between observable behavior and unobservable belief formation. Key topics include subjective learning, rational inattention, and other-regarding motives like shame and magical thinking.

He has directed the PhD Placement program in Economics since 2024. His work has been supported by NSF grants, including co-PI roles in 'Evolution and Adaptation: Ambiguity Attitudes with Optimal Risk Preferences' (2019-2022) and PI in 'Dynamic Rational Inattention: Theory and Applications' (2015-2018).

Teaching includes advanced microeconomic theory courses (ECON 701D, ECON 705D) and behavioral economics (ECON 462/HLTHPOL 462/PSY 463). His recent publications address evolutionary models of ambiguity aversion, subjective information constraints, and stable behavioral partitions.
