Philipp Rauh

Philipp Rauh, MA, is a Research Fellow at the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine within Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg. His work focuses on Medicine under National Socialism, Medical Ethics, and History of Psychiatry, particularly examining the role of physicians in concentration camps and wartime medical practices.

• Education: Studied History and German Literature at the University of Konstanz and Freie Universität Berlin (1998–2004).

His research explores Medical Crimes and the Social Practice of Terror, analyzing SS doctors' roles in concentration camps (1934–1945) and the evolution of military psychiatry post-1945. He investigates how psychiatric records from Nazi-era hospitals inform historical research and memorial efforts, and the treatment of soldiers during World War I.

Recent publications span topics like Nazi 'euthanasia', medical records as historical sources, psychiatric patient fates, and military medical culture in both World Wars. His work often intersects with bioethics and historical accountability.
