Philipp Brandt is an Assistant Professor at the Center for the Sociology of Organizations (CSO) at Sciences Po, Paris. His research focuses on emerging professions, expert work, and their socio-economic contexts. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University (2016), with a dissertation on the data science profession. He previously conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Mannheim.
Key research interests include the construction of professional identities (e.g., data scientists), precarious work, and the impact of technology on labor. His current projects explore the decline of yellow taxi drivers and the cultural dimensions of data science. In 2023, he received an ERC Starting Grant for a project on work returns in occupational and organizational contexts.
