
Philip Yaure

Philip Yaure is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy within the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. His research focuses on social and political philosophy, anti-racist critical theory, and the history of African American political thought, with an emphasis on the antebellum period and mid-20th century Black labor organizing. He also explores early modern philosophy, particularly the epistemological role of humility in Margaret Cavendish and John Locke.

Yaure's work employs historical and archival methods to examine political community formation under domination. His book Seizing Citizenship: Frederick Douglass's Abolitionist Republicanism (Oxford University Press) highlights his contributions to understanding Black abolitionist thought.
