Philip Wandschneider is a distinguished Professor in the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University (WSU). He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University (1981), an MA in Economics (1977), and a BA in Psychology and Economics (1969). His research focuses on natural resources, energy economics, sustainable development, and water policy. He has held academic roles at WSU since 1985, including Associate Professor (1985–1990) and Professor (2003–present), alongside visiting roles at institutions like the University of Bonn and University of Bologna. His work spans global collaborations, including studies in Namibia, Chile, Uzbekistan, and Malawi.
Key research interests include non-market resource valuation, benefit-cost analysis, and policy design for biofuels and environmental sustainability. He has advised on agricultural policy, wildfire risk mitigation, and water resource management. Notable international engagements include study abroad programs in Italy and sabbaticals in Germany and Italy. His teaching specialties include resource economics and globalization.
Publications highlight topics such as crop insurance markets, biofuel policy, and water demand modeling. He has contributed to interdisciplinary initiatives, including evaluations of agricultural productivity and the economic impacts of agritourism.
