Dr. Philip W. Travis is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History at Eastern Oregon University (EOU). He joined EOU in 2014 as a Visiting Assistant Professor and transitioned to his current role. His research focuses on U.S. and world history, with specializations in international relations, transnational politics, military history, and the study of empire. His notable work examines the Reagan administration’s engagement with Nicaragua through counterterrorism and propaganda frameworks.
Dr. Travis holds a Ph.D. in History from Washington State University, an M.A. in History from the University of Kentucky, and dual B.S. degrees in History and Philosophy/Religious Studies from Radford University.
He is currently finalizing a book titled *Reagan’s War on Terrorism in Nicaragua: The Outlaw State*, to be published by Lexington Books in 2016. This work analyzes Cold War-era U.S. foreign policy through the lens of counterterrorism and propaganda.
Dr. Travis actively contributes to EOU’s History Program, advising students and participating in departmental initiatives such as the History Capstone and alumni engagement efforts. He is affiliated with the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and maintains an active presence on campus through departmental events and course instruction.
