Philip Skemer

Philip Skemer is Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. He directs the Rock Deformation Lab and Fossett Laboratory for Virtual Planetary Exploration, researching plate tectonics, mantle deformation, and planetary geology.

His experimental work investigates rock deformation processes relevant to Earth and planetary interiors, using torsion apparatuses and microstructural analysis. Research includes interpreting seismological data, formation of plate boundaries, and comparative planetary tectonics.
