Philip Sandblom (1903–2001) was a distinguished Professor of Surgery at Lund University (1950–1968) and Rector Magnificus (equivalent to Vice-Chancellor) of Lund University from 1957 to 1968. He pioneered research in surgical physiology, including wound healing and the pathological condition 'hemobilia.' His academic career blended medicine with art, culminating in works like his seminal book Creativity and Disease, analyzing the interplay between illness and artistic creativity. As Rector, he expanded Lund's international reach, establishing exchange programs with the University of California and navigating student protests with a commitment to non-violent resolution.
