Philip Russell is a renowned academic and founding Director of the Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) and holds the Krupp Chair in Experimental Physics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He earned his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford and has held positions at institutions including the Technical University Hamburg-Harburg, University of Nice, IBM Research, University of Southampton, and University of Bath. His research focuses on photonic crystal fibers, nonlinear optics, and light-matter interactions, with applications in photonics and quantum technologies. Russell has been honored with prestigious awards such as the Körber Prize and IEEE Photonics Award, and served as OSA President in 2015.
